AW6061 - Versatile aluminum alloy for versatile applications

AW6061 is one of the best known and most widely used aluminum alloys. It offers a good combination of strength, corrosion resistance and machinability. With its magnesium (approx. 0.8-1.2%) and silicon content (approx. 0.4-0.8%), AW6061 is ideal for structural applications where both mechanical properties and resistance to weathering are required. The alloy is easy to weld and machine and is suitable for a wide range of applications in the aerospace, mechanical engineering, automotive and construction industries.

Properties:

Good strength: AW6061 offers excellent strength combined with good formability.

Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to corrosion, especially in humid or marine environments.

Machinability: Very good weldability and machinability, making it ideal for demanding manufacturing processes.
Heat treatment: AW6061 can be further optimized by heat treatment, which further improves its strength and mechanical properties.
